Granite Bay, once known as "Granite
Bar" for the granite rock quarried from its banks, was one of the
first settlements of the California gold miners in the early 1850s.
These days Granite Bay is a resort-oriented community shaded by a heavy
canopy of oak trees and with large granite boulders dotting the
landscape. Trails for horseback riding lead into the Folsom Lake
State Recreation Area and wind through housing developments with five
and ten acre parcels.
The Granite Bay housing market is primarily single-family homes
ranging in price from $300,000 to $2,500,000. Treelake offers
homes on a man made lake and there are other homes areas on lakes and
streams. Granite Bay is mostly high- end developments. There are
custom and semi-custom homes throughout the community.
Health care, conveniently located in neighboring Roseville, is readily
available to residents. Kaiser Hospital and the new Sutter
Roseville Medical Center are nearby. A much-anticipated regional
shopping mall featuring five anchor stores, movie theaters and
restaurants opened in 2000. (Roseville Galleria)
Outdoor recreation in Granite Bay is abundant with nearby Folsom Lake
Recreation Area. Folsom is an 18,000 acre lake with water-skiing,
hiking, horseback riding, nature studies, camping and picnicking.
Miners Ravine offers hiking trails along the stream, and Treelake Park
has open space, sports courts and a toddler playground for the
resident's enjoyment. The area is serviced by the Eureka Union School
District, which is an important element of the popularity of the Granite
Bay area.
